The ARIS research project MitiClim (J7-70270), officially launched on April 21, 2026, at the National and University Library (NUK). MitiClim addresses the escalating challenges that climate change poses to the preservation of written cultural heritage. The research focuses on developing innovative, sustainable models for library and archival storage, aiming to enhance storage conditions while simultaneously reducing environmental impact.
The primary objective of the project is to develop effective storage solutions adapted to varying temperature (T) and relative humidity (RH) conditions. These solutions will utilize passive strategies suitable for both new facility construction and the refurbishment of existing repositories. Additionally, experts will provide impact assessments of these strategies on the long-term preservation of Slovenia’s written heritage.
The project brings together specialists from the fields of conservation, heritage science, civil engineering, physics, chemistry, and facilities management. It is a collaborative effort involving NUK, the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZAG), the Heritage Science Lab Ljubljana (HSLL) at the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, University of Ljubljana (UL FKKT), and the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia (ZVKDS). The project is coordinated by Dr. Jasna Malešič.
