Digital Tools

Digital technologies are transforming the way we study, monitor, and preserve cultural heritage. Through our involvement in a range of research projects and international initiatives, we have developed a suite of digital tools to support the Heritage Science (HS) community in addressing current and emerging challenges.

These tools are designed as practical, research-driven services that enable more informed decision-making, improved data interpretation, and a deeper understanding of material change over time. Their primary focus is on preventive conservation, supporting professionals in risk assessment, environmental monitoring, material analysis, and the prediction of degradation processes.

Available digital tools:

Collections Demography App

The App supports preventive conservation decision-making in the context of storage in large archives and libraries. The fundamental concepts used in this app were developed in the frame of the UK AHRC/EPSRC Collections Demography project .

Box Buffering Capacity App

This is an open-source application for better understanding relative humidity (RH) fluctuations in museum enclosure microenvironment.
It provides a quantitative measure of boxes’ RH buffering capacity via Humidity Attenuation (HA) Index, which could in future support decision-making for preventive conservation actions.
