Advancing Humanities and Heritage with Artificial Intelligence

The Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency recentlz approved a new »large« project called AID HCH – Advancing Humanities and Cultural Heritage with Artificial Intelligence, to launch on 1 January 2025. This three-year initiative attracted €1.5M funding in total and addresses critical challenges in integrating AI into heritage science.

AID HCH aims to establish Slovenia’s first comprehensive data space for humanities and heritage (SHHDS), enhancing our collaboration in infrastructures like E-RIHS, CLARIN, and DARIAH. The key focus areas include historical research, heritage storytelling, and predictive conservation. The partner organizations include:

  • University of Maribor (Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering)
  • University of Ljubljana (Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology)
  • University of Primorska (Faculty of Humanities)
  • National and University Library of Slovenia
  • University Library Maribor
  • Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute
  • Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia

Together, the institutions aim to advance the application of AI in cultural heritage and heritage science and foster innovative research practices.
